Typically, you should water daily for the first week. In the hot summer months you should water twice daily during the first week, then reduce the schedule over the next three weeks. Apply water at a rate of 3/4" to 1" per application. Once the sod has established, water on an as need basis. Exercise care when areas of the lawn fall under shade. Shaded areas do not require as much water as areas of full sun. For shaded areas, the first week apply water as if in full sun, afterwards reduce the amount of watering to an as need basis. We find it is quite common for homeowners to overwater their lawns, even more so when they utilize an irrigation system. For more detail information on lawn irrigation, refer to the publication by the University of Florida; “Water Requirements of Florida Turfgrasses."
